Melrose is a popular apple in Ohio where is originated, but will grow well in all parts of the country where it is more humid and rainy. It is an excellent dessert quality apple with great keeping qualities. It resembles Jonathan in appearance, but ripens later in the season before Red Rome time. Can be used for all purposes.
Melrose was selected as a seedling of Red Delicious and Jonathan in Wooster, Ohio at the Experiment Station. It was introduced in 1944. Grandpa's friends in Ohio raved about Melrose and when he grew it Grandma liked it in the kitchen and for eating out of hand.
Melrose is one of the most productive apples. It is just about the last apple to bloom, so pollinate with other late blooming apples. It is an easy tree to maintain.
