- Summary
- Hardiness Zone & More
Sansa in a high quality dessert apple that ripens a week or so ahead of Gala. The bright red fruit is medium sized, with firm, white flesh and an excellent sweet, juicy, distinct flavor. It keeps well for an early apple.
Sansa is another of the Japanese introductions to the US, but the cross was made in New Zealand in 1961. It was introduced in the United States in 1986, but has never caught on commercially. However, it is a nice backyard variety.
Sansa is only moderately vigorous, but is very productive. Thin it well for better size. It is a mid-season bloomer. Its leaves often show a chlorotic, light green veining look that is normal for the tree.
