Italian Prune
Prunus domestica 'Italian'
- » Italian Prune is a favorite for eating and drying.
Grandpa's Choice™ Italian Prune is often used for drying. It ripens in mid-season, just ahead of Stanley time, and is a beautiful dark purple, with sweet, firm yellow flesh. It is more suited for western areas than Stanley, but will grow well in the east to.
Italian Prune is also known as Fellenberg, and has always been popular. It was replaced in the east by Stanley, which was a little hardier and more suited to eastern conditions.
Italian is mostly self-fertile, but benefits by cross pollination in setting bigger crops.
