Malus domestica 'Kingston Black'

Kingston Black is one of the few English Cidre apples that can be used for singel-variety cidre.  It has a good sugar content with a bitter sharp flavor class.  It has a distinctive flavor all its own.  The fruit is medium sized, round with a dark crimson-purple color over a yellowish-orange background color.  The tree is vigorous, but is considered a more challenging variety to grow, requiring careful pruning.  It ripens from mid-Sept to mid-Oct.

Kingston Black is one of only three cidre varieties that was used in England for single-variety cidre.  It originated around 1820 in Britain.

Kingston Black is susceptible to fire blight.
