Pyrus communis Gem - Gem Pear

Gem Pear

Pyrus communis 'Gem'

Gem Pear is a fireblight resistant variety known to have a crisp, juicy texture when eaten off the tree. The texture softens as it ripens, similar to that of Bartlett. The fruit is medium sized, and its light green skin turns to yellow as it ripens, and can have a slight red blush. The variety bears early and produces high yields. It blooms about the same time as Bartlett, while harvest occurs about a week after Bartlett. Gem requires a pollinator.

The Gem cultivar was jointly released in 2014 by the USDA, Oregon State University, Michigan State University, and Clemson University.
