Malus domestica Jonamac - Jonamac Apple

Jonamac Apple

Malus domestica 'Jonamac'

Jonamac is an excellent dessert quality apple ripening about a week before McIntosh, which is one of its parents. The fruit is very similar in appearance to Mac, but is more highly colored and firmer. Eating quality is superior to Mac. The fruit is only medium sized and will soften in storage.

Jonamac, like its name suggests, is a cross between McIntosh and Jonathan. It came to us from the Geneva Experiment Station in New York in 1972.

Jonamac is a moderately vigorous, upright to spreading tree. It is very productive. It is susceptible to apple scab, but moderately tolerant to fire blight. It is a good pollinizer for all early to mid-season apples.
